Telegram Bot Is Not Publishing to a Channel: What to Check
When a bot cannot publish to a Telegram channel, the cause is usually permissions, the wrong channel, invalid post data, or a Telegram API response. Check these areas in order instead of changing everything at once.
1. Confirm the bot is in the correct channel
With several test and production channels, it is easy to add the bot to one and publish to another. Open the administrator list of the exact target channel and find the bot by username.
2. Confirm it can post messages
Membership is not enough. The bot must be an administrator with permission to post messages. Only the owner or an administrator allowed to appoint other administrators can grant it. The publishing bot does not need unrelated permissions.
3. Use the correct channel identifier
A public channel normally has an @username. A private channel can use a numeric ID beginning with -100. Some tools can detect the ID from a forwarded channel message.
An invite link such as t.me/+... or joinchat is for people joining a channel; it is not a Bot API publishing target. See how to find a Telegram channel ID.
4. Match the bot and token
A token identifies one bot. If Bot A has channel permission but the program uses Bot B’s token, Bot A’s rights do not help. Verify the token’s bot username, the administrator in the channel, and the bot selected for publishing.
5. Test the post content
Send a short text-only message first. If it succeeds, add text formatting, media, and buttons one at a time. This separates access problems from an invalid file, unsupported media, or malformed button data.
6. Check the button URL
For a URL button, use a complete address, including HTTPS for a web page. Test Telegram links separately in the Telegram client.
7. Do not retry continuously after a rate limit
The Bot API can return 429 Too Many Requests with a required wait interval. Respect RetryAfter. Immediate repeated requests only extend the failure.
8. Read the actual Telegram error
“Not published” is not enough detail. Save the API error: no chat access, invalid identifier, insufficient rights, invalid message data, and rate limiting require different fixes.
9. Do not use an invite link to grant bot access
Add the bot manually through Channel → Administrators → Add Administrator, then enable Post Messages. Passing an invite link to a program neither appoints the bot nor grants permissions.
A two-minute checklist
- Is the correct bot selected?
- Is it an administrator in the correct channel?
- Can it post messages?
- Is the target identifier correct?
- Is it an identifier rather than an invite link?
- Does plain text publish without media or buttons?
- What exact error did Telegram return?
How SoftLitePOSTBot handles this
SoftLitePOSTBot publishes through your own bots to channels where they have the required rights. It accepts public usernames/links, private -100... IDs, and ID detection from a forwarded message. Invite links are not publishing targets.
Posts are sent sequentially. The program observes Telegram retry responses and reports successful and failed sends; it does not remove Telegram’s platform limits.
