How to Create a Telegram Bot
To create a Telegram bot, open @BotFather, send /newbot, choose a display name and an available username, then save the Bot API token it returns. Treat that token like a password: anyone who has it can control the bot through the API.
Registering the bot account is only the first step. The bot needs your code or a trusted application before it can reply, publish, or process registrations.
1. Open the real @BotFather
Check the exact username before sending anything. BotFather is Telegram’s official bot for creating and configuring bots.
2. Send /newbot
Press START and send /newbot. BotFather asks for a display name and then a username.
3. Choose the display name
This name appears in the profile and chat list. It can contain spaces and does not need to be globally unique.
4. Choose the username
The username is used in search, mentions, and the bot’s t.me link. Under the current BotFather rules it is 5–32 characters, uses Latin letters, digits, and underscores, and ends in bot, for example ExampleHelpBot.
5. Save the Bot API token
After registration, BotFather returns an authentication string. Never paste a real token into a public article or screenshot. A redacted example is:
123456789:REDACTED_EXAMPLE_TOKEN
The token authenticates the bot to the Bot API. It is not the bot’s numeric Telegram ID and it is not your personal Telegram password.
Why the token must stay private
Someone with a valid token can make API calls as the bot. Keep it out of public repositories, screenshots, shared documents, and support messages that do not require it. If it leaks, revoke it in BotFather and generate a replacement.
What comes next?
- Add the bot to a channel or group and grant only the rights its job requires.
- Connect its token to your backend or application.
- Test in a private group or channel before using it with an audience.
How Soft Lite uses bots
Soft Lite POST Bot publishes through Telegram bots created by the user. Soft Lite Registration Bot also works with your own bots and their user registrations.
The bot is yours, the token is yours, and the bot account belongs to you. Soft Lite does not provide one shared publishing bot.
Quick checklist
- Created through the real @BotFather.
- Username is available and ends in bot.
- Token is stored privately.
- Token has not been posted or shared unnecessarily.
- A backend or application is ready to run the bot.
