How to Add a Bot to a Telegram Channel
To add a bot to a Telegram channel, open the channel profile, go to channel management and Administrators, then add your bot by its exact username. Grant only the rights it needs. A publishing bot must be an administrator with permission to post messages.
The labels vary slightly between Telegram for Android, iPhone, and Desktop, but the path is the same: administrators → add administrator → find the bot → choose rights.
Before you start
- The bot already exists in @BotFather.
- You know its exact username.
- Your account can add channel administrators.
If you have not created it yet, follow How to Create a Telegram Bot.
Add the bot step by step
- Open the channel and tap its name.
- Open the management or edit screen.
- Select Administrators.
- Choose Add Administrator.
- Search for the exact bot username.
- Enable the required rights and save.
Creating a bot does not give it automatic access to any channel. Add it separately to every channel it should use.
The permission required for publishing
Posting new channel messages requires Post Messages, represented by can_post_messages in the Bot API. A correct token and Channel ID are not enough without this permission.
Editing and deleting are separate rights. Leave them disabled when the application only creates new posts.
Why not grant every right?
Permissions should match the job. A publishing bot generally does not need to appoint administrators, change channel details, or manage unrelated features. Minimal access limits the impact of a mistake or leaked token.
Test the connection
- Confirm the bot appears under Administrators.
- Confirm Post Messages is enabled.
- Use the correct public username or numeric Channel ID.
- Send one plain-text test post.
Add media and buttons only after the simple test succeeds.
Common mistakes
- A different bot with a similar username was added.
- The bot is an administrator but cannot post.
- The application stores another bot’s token.
- A private invite link is used instead of a Channel ID.
- The post violates a Bot API format or size limit.

Publishing with Soft Lite
If you want to prepare and send posts through your own bots, Soft Lite POST Bot uses the user’s token. You add your bot to the channel, grant posting permission, and select the channel in the application.
